I'll be surprised if anyone can guess the reason why "fiend" uses brains as a drug. Please come back to find out.

Synopsis

A new designer drug has hit the streets but It's origins go far back past antiquity. A version of the ancient drug has been used for thousands of years by remote Primitive tribes. Now modern science has improved it. Its an addiction so powerful, no-one has ever beaten it, save for death. The sadists behind it's refinement continue the development of even more sinister strains. With animal test subjects becoming short with supply and increasingly expensive they turn to another source of life that is still quite cheap. When one of their intoxicated slaves is unable to pay outright for their next fix they are compelled to partake in a gamble and choose at random between two dripping needles. One is the promised and desired fix, while the other is the experimental strain and near certain death.

It's no speculation that animal toxins are some of the very first intoxicants used by man. For the primitive tribes, the effects of some of these ancient formulas have become legend and are treated with a religious like reverence to this day. One such formulas effects are depicted in native art, both new and old. Some of this art seems to tell stories of men taking animal or  even monstrous shapes. These creatures would live for a suns rise and fall. It is said by those tasked with the passing down of such tales, that the concoction used to evoke and thus transform a man into these "spirits" was long ago forbidden. The exact formula was purposefully forgotten.

Our modern pushers get closer to rediscovering the legend in the stories with every broke addict who chooses that second syringe. Closer to creating the monstrous depictions found in the art with every new "Fiend."

Future Plans:

"Fiend" will continue to be posted each week as a test run. If I can't cover some expenses I may need to evaluate my situation further. I will release a good number of pages before I worry about it. A game that uses the art from the book is in the works.
